Star Wars Editor Marcia Lucas Slams Kathleen Kennedy and J.J. Abrams’ Sequel Trilogy: “Just Terrible, Awful”

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Star Wars editor Marcia Lucas slammed the new Star Wars trilogy and Kathleen Kennedy’s leadership. Lucas also called the films “terrible” and said that Abrams is not a filmmaker.

George Lucas is a famous director, and he has been involved in the Star Wars franchise since its inception. His wife Marcia Lucas is also a well-known film maker, and she recently slammed Kathleen Kennedy and J.J. Abrams’ sequel trilogy for being just terrible, awful.

Marcia Lucas, the Oscar-winning editor of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (and George Lucas’ ex-wife), does not seem to be a fan of Disney’s sequel trilogy.

Lucas expressed her disdain for the new Star Wars films in an interview for Howard Kazanjian: A Producer’s Life, a new book about the life and work of the legendary film producer behind classics like The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Return of the Jedi, accusing Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and director J.J. Abrams of having no idea how to handle the franchise.

Lucas expressed her outrage when she heard about Han Solo’s death in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was followed by the deaths of other important characters such as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. Lucas also chastised Rey, the heroine of the second trilogy, for the fact that no one appears to know how she gained her abilities or what her true background is.

The following is an extract from Lucas:

“Kathleen is someone I like. Marcia Lucas comments, “I’ve always liked her.” “She was overflowing with beans. She was very intelligent and brilliant. She’s an amazing lady. Frank, her spouse, was also someone I loved. They were very appealing to me. Kathy Kennedy and J.J. Abrams don’t appear to know anything about Star Wars now that they’re controlling Lucasfilm and producing movies. They haven’t grasped the concept. These tales are being written by J.J. Abrams. I was enraged when I watched the movie in which Han Solo was killed. When they assassinated Han Solo, I was enraged. There was absolutely no rhyme or sense to any of it. You don’t understand the Jedi tale, I thought. You don’t receive the Star Wars magic. Are you going to get rid of Han Solo? Then they have Luke disintegrate at the conclusion of the final one, The Last Jedi. They assassinated Han Solo. Luke Skywalker was assassinated. They also no longer have Princess Leia. Every year, they churn out new films. And they believe it’s essential to cater to a female audience, so their primary character is now a girl with Jedi abilities, but we have no idea how she acquired them or who she is. It’s a pain. The plots are horrendous. It’s really awful. Awful.

“You may cite me as saying, ‘J.J. Abrams, Kathy Kennedy, speak to me.’”

Lucas not only received an Academy Award for Best Film Editing for her work on Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope in 1977, but she also contributed to the creation of some of the film’s most memorable narrative sequences. She was the one who advised George Lucas to let Obi-Wan Kenobi die at the hands of Darth Vader in the Death Star’s famous lightsaber duel.
