AMC Games has announced The Fabulous Fear Machine, a new pulp strategy game for PC that will be released next year in 2022. The story-driven strategy game will teach you how to dominate the world by using terror.

This is also the newest game by Fictiorama Studios, the Madrid-based studio behind Do Not Feed the Monkeys. Watch the teaser trailer for The Fabulous Fear Machine below:

The Fabulous Fear Machine is a single-player real-time strategy game with a throwback horror comic design that positions the player as a freshly minted “Master of the Machine.” To achieve their objectives, players must carefully cultivate numerous Legends—those terrifying tales, urban legends, and conspiracy theories that lie in the dark recesses of the mind.

The Fabulous Fear Machine is a pulp horror roleplaying game that mixes bold social simulation with pulp horror roleplaying. AMC Games and Fictiorama have teamed up with AMC Network’s premium horror streaming service, Shudder, to provide developers with fear-inducing skills.

Clayton Neuman, AMC’s Vice President of Games, had this to say about it:

The latest project from AMC Games takes us back to our horror origins. Fabulous Fear Machine is the epitome of why we create frightening tales in the first place. It delves into the stories we all grew up hearing as children and the joy we receive from telling them to others. We’re ecstatic to be working with Fictiorama’s award-winning creators, as well as our friends at Shudder, to bring the power of urban legends to gamers… so that they might spread and frighten the living daylights out of us all.

Developer Fictoriama, on the other hand, added,

With this game, we’re not only looking at urban legends as an important part of culture and folklore throughout the globe, but also at the enormous power that these stories can have over a society. Working on this project with the horror gurus at Shudder and AMC has been a blast. How much are we all impacted by these legends? We address that question in The Fabulous Fear Machine by turning terrifying tales into strategic tools… After that, we put them into the hands of the players.

The following are some of the features:

  • Horror has progressed. Plant fear’s seeds in fruitful ground. Keep an eye on and ear out for how the media responds to your Legends. Feed them, and they’ll get more strong and effective as a result.
  • The task was completed correctly. Leave the hard job to your Agents; your strength is in thinking. Send them on missions to discover new places and infiltrate your adversaries, making exciting decisions along the way.
  • A response that is the polar opposite of one’s own. Rivals and good forces alike aim to undermine the Machine’s power for their own purposes. If you don’t plan ahead, your Legends can wind up being twisted into inspiring tales, mascots, or other sugary-sweet clichés.
  • Consider the big picture, but be afraid of the details. Many legends are based on certain nations’ distinct cultural histories. Travel the globe to discover what terrors each population enjoys.
  • It’s an age-old story. During a single game, you’ll control the storylines of multiple Masters acting in various parts of the globe. Explore the Machine’s past, its foes, and the Agents that help you along the road.
